ICVET Update: February 2006

From Maret Staron, Manager
Welcome to our first quarterly magazine for 2006. This year should prove to be a very exciting and consolidating year for ICVET (TAFE NSW International Centre for VET Teaching and Learning). Our website will be bigger and better than ever. During the year we will be featuring new information and stories about assessment, educational leadership, workplace training, indigenous learning and technical currency.
We are holding a Teaching and Learning Colloquium for over 100 teachers, head teachers and educational managers in Sydney on 30 March 2006, in collaboration with TAFE NSW Institutes. The Colloquium aims to strengthen teaching and learning in TAFE NSW through professional conversations, relationships and knowledge sharing.
The final report on our extensive research into Designing Professional Development for the Knowledge Era will be available in March 2006. This national research project has been conducted in partnership with DEST (Department of Education Science and Training) and has been informed by a Working Group of national and international researchers, a National Reference Group chaired by TAFE NSW Institute Director – Barry Peddle, and three national action planning forums.
The research focuses on a strength based model for professional development and incorporates a new approach to working and learning in the knowledge era – life based learning. The response to our findings in the national forums and conferences that we have presented to, has been very exciting. The key researchers on this project are myself, Robby Weatherley and Marie Jasinski. You will be able to access full details on the research and case studies, as well as blog away to your hearts content, on this website during February and March.
A key work area for ICVET is VET pedagogy. We have been examining emerging literature, theory and practices in the field, and developing conversation starter packs on accommodating learner needs. All this will be brought together in a substantial think piece on VET pedagogy in March and will be available on this website. So keep your eye out for this important contribution to the field of teaching and learning.
I hope that 2006 will be a very fulfilling and happy year for you.
