ICVET update: September 2008

Robby WeatherleyFrom Robby Weatherley , Relieving Manager, TAFE NSW ICVET

Our focus these past few months has remained the development of capability development strategies and approaches for TAFE NSW staff, to support the Century 21 (C21) Workforce Development Guarantee.  In this we have continued to collaborate very closely with Institutes.  You will see our growing interest in workforce development and in supporting teacher capability development in this eZine edition.

In accord with our focus area of capability development, we have included articles and a case study that relate to key teacher capabilities identified in the C21 document.  C21 identifies the five capabilities needed as being: delivering workforce development services to enterprises, using technologies to do business, meeting the needs of diverse learners, interpreting and customising Training Packages and leadership.

Our website continues to grow in popularity.  This year to date we have had 328,811 page views by our users, compared to this time last year’s figure of 240,038 this shows a 37% increase in page views. Click here to view our website usage reports.

The unit has undergone quite a few changes in staff in recent times.  Greg Madden has left ICVET to take up a position in Abu Dhabi on a TAFE NSW international project.  Susan Gronow has joined us temporarily from Illawarra, and will be working primarily on the TAFE NSW Leadership Development Program as part of the TAFE NSW Workforce Development Guarantee.   The Australian Flexible Learning Framework Team has also had changes in staff.  Melanie Doriean has replaced Jeff Saul as the NSW e-Learning Coordinator.  Rose Grozdanic has been appointed as the National Innovation Coordinator.  All the team members have been busy, working toward elearning 08 and coordinating the 38 innovation projects selected for funding this year.  Details of these projects can be found on the NSW site.

I have been acting in Maret Staron’s place the past month in her absence, but am about to leave to take up an exciting appointment as Director, Workforce Development, at Sydney Institute.  It has been a wonderful journey, and a privilege for me to have worked for so long with this unit, supporting professional development and innovation in TAFE NSW and nationally.  I look forward to my new challenge, and to reading the next eZine edition with a completely new perspective.
