Thursday 19 October, 12 noon – 2.00pm

Internationally renowned e-learning expert Nancy White will present on Day 1 of E-learning 06.  Recognised for her leadership and expertise in the emerging field of online group interaction, Nancy is an international presenter and a keen explorer of the latest e-learning technologies.

Nancy’s presentation will be a great opportunity for vocational and technical education practitioners and managers along with industry leaders to gain informative insights into e-learning and how it can effectively be delivered across a range of organisational areas.

Focused on innovative e-learning practices, the presentations will cover a fascinating array of topics to outline visions, provoke debate and provide practical examples of e-learning in action.   Her presentation will cover questions such as:

  • what are the organisational impacts and benefits of communities of practice(CoPs)?
  • with the emergence of more individually focused tools that enable connection, how do we find the balance between the individual and the community?
  • what do we mean when we talk about blogs and communities in the same breath?
  • what are the top eight competencies of online interaction?

George Siemens is a leading theorist on the implications of technology and societal trends on learning and knowledge. He is founder and President of Complexive Systems Inc., a learning lab assisting organisations develop integrated learning structures to meet the needs of global strategy execution. He has presented internationally on connectivism, changing context and characteristics of knowledge, changes required to organizations to meet changing needs of learners, technology trends, and numerous other technology and learning related topics.

George’s presentation will be on Connectivism: Changes in knowledge=changes in learning?

Over the last decade, numerous trends have impacted how we view, access, and create knowledge: technology, rise of co-creator class, global connectedness, international competition, and development pace. This session will explore what is happening with knowledge and potential implications to how we design our academic systems.

George Siemens is the author of Knowing Knowledge - an exploration of societal trends and implications for the spaces and structures of schools, universities, and corporation. He maintains www.elearnspace.org, www.connectivism.ca and www.knowingknowledge.com websites.
