A conference for teachers, executives and leaders in TAFE Institutes and Schools across NSW.

Online registrations for the 15-19 Year Olds Conference - Inspire, Prepare, Achieve being held at the Novotel Brighton Beach in Sydney on 11-12 July 2007 open on 23 April. The online registration site is at www.detconferences.nsw.edu.au.
The conference will focus on learning needs and teaching strategies for the retention and participation of 15-19 year old students in education and training. The conference will also feature a broad range of workshops. These workshops will reflect a range of issues relating to the education of 15-19 year olds, from current educational research through to effective classroom strategies. It will also include keynote addresses from leading academics and practitioners in the field including:
- Dr David Bennett AO is the current Head of the NSW Centre for the Advancement of Adolescent Health, a former Head of Adolescent Medicine at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Consultant with the World Health Organisation. In 1995 David was awarded with an AO for ‘service to medicine, particularly in the field of adolescent health and medical care’ David has co-authored several books dealing with adolescent behaviour including You can’t make me: Seven simple rules for parenting teenagers.
- Ms Megan Lilly is the Associate Director (Education and Training) for the Australian Industry Group, co-chair of the Training Packages standing committee, chair of Manufacturing Skills Australia, and a former CEO of Business Services Training Australia, the national industry advisory board for the business services and related industry sectors. In her current role Megan is responsible for the development of all education and training public policy advice on behalf of the Australian Industry Group.
- Professor Margaret Vickers is the Professor of Education at the University of Western Sydney, a former high school teacher and senior officer within the Australian Public Service. In her time at the Paris-based OECD Margaret participated in country reviews focusing on young people’s transitions from school to work and further study. She has published widely on topics related to youth in transition, including longitudinal studies on the effects of part-time work on students in high school, and on the impact of VET in schools.
The conference will provide teachers, executive staff, TAFE and Departmental officers who are working with 15-19 year old students with a valuable professional development opportunity.
