The engagement of young people in education and training is one of the challenges that face today’s teachers. A & GE CC has researched this aspect of teaching today’s 'digital natives' and is also piloting a program to engage young learners in by using the converged technologies of mlearning and online learning.

Sue Souter has extensive experience in managing a diverse range of projects including the TAFE NSW HYPAR & ArtStart Programs. Anne Paterson has managed the development of e-learning resources and has experience in facilitation of online meetings and using various forms of communication technology for educational purposes.

This session will focus upon key issues surrounding the development and evaluation of skilful practice or work.  Informed by extensive participatory action research, the workshop explores soft, employability, and generic skills, and most importantly, how these are developed and evaluated in context.  Delegates will be aided in developing an understanding of the theoretical and practical arguments surrounding any evaluative technique approaching the whole person through engagement with the concept from the perspective of their own practices.

The aim of this workshop is to give hands on experience in using a mobile phone to SMS and send pictures to a moblogging website.

Participants will look at moblogging sites, explore literacy and numeracy delivery possibilities and be introduced to some of the underpinning/developing theory in m-learning.

Participants are encouraged to bring their camera phones to use in the session, however, having a camera phone is NOT a requirement to come to this session.

The Goorie Research and Study Program (GRASP) is a collaboration between the Aboriginal Education Training Unit and General Education at Lismore TAFE. Developed with significant input from Aboriginal staff and specifically designed for Aboriginal students, it differs substantially from other programs available to this student group. Individual planned, competency based training programs and the way students are enrolled and assessed in GRASP have proven to be very effective in meeting the particular needs of Aboriginal students on the North Coast.

Building a Culture of Innovation within the VET system

Tess Julian is the Director of ratio, a consultancy which specialises in vocational education and training.

Tess has led a team of consultants in developing the Innovation-Ideas that Work materials, funded by Australian National Training Authority (ANTA ). Ratio was contracted by ANTA to develop and trial competency standards for innovation.

Out of the project came a methodology for building innovation in organisations which has been successfully implemented at Kangan Batman TAFE among other organisations.

This presentation will go through the methodology using Kangan Batman and other workplaces as examples.


Interactive Ochre - Infotainment as an Educational Tool

Interactive Ochre is an interactive CD delivering an Aboriginal perspective on cultural awareness training. Using entertaining and empowering multimedia resources the session demonstrates 'infotainment' as a methodology. Interactive Ochre was designed to prepare service professionals to work more effectively with Aboriginal people. Educational infotainment has potential for all workgroups and in this multimedia rich era uses contemporary media to engage XYO generation audiences. Jeff is an experienced practitioner in online and work based learning who been a PD officer in Tafe SA Regional online training unit for the past 5 years.
