ICT training package - ICA05

RTOs are strongly encouraged to integrate, link or at least be aware of industry and vendor certifications that relate to the Training Package qualifications they offer. (ICA05)

The global market for IT vendor certification training is over $2 billion. IT vendor certification training can be incorporated into the ICT training package ICA05.

This showcase will highlight:

Ø      Mapping vendor certification learning outcomes to ICA05 module learning outcomes

Ø      The pedagogy of IT vendor blended e-learning

Ø      Formative assessment – using vendor assessment tools

Ø      Implications for workplace assessment

Teaching Resources

IT is a global industry. IT vendors such as Microsoft and Cisco have spent tens of millions of dollars on IT certification, certification resources and certification curricula. The resources that are available for use include:

Ø      Books

Ø      Lab Manuals

Ø      Computer Based Training

Ø      Assessment Banks

Ø      Virtual Labs

Ø      Web based delivery and assessment

The advantages of using IT vendor curricula include:

Vendor training is recognised internationally as an industry benchmark for product specific training.

The training component is produced at the same time that ICT products are developed and the resultant courses offer short product specific just-in-time training.

Note: There are issues and concerns with the use of IT vendor curricula that RTOs should address before implementation. These issues include the cost of hardware and software, instructor training, timetabling and ethical issues about being an advocate for a particular vendor product.

Mapping

Vendor mapping creates a matrix which maps the learning outcomes of IT vendor certification against the learning outcomes of a training package module.

 Module Mapping
